Lee: I think a lot of it just boils down to being honest and open. MFR: Can you talk about your creative partnership? You’re dealing with several subjects that can get emotionally charged how did you ensure that each others’ visions came to life on the page? I think my mind will deflect a lot and be like, “well okay, it’s out, doesn’t mean anyone bought it,” or “they bought it, doesn’t mean they read it,” or “they read it, doesn’t mean they liked it”… but Lee will do what he does best and remind me that the question “what if everything goes wrong” can be easily changed to “what if everything goes right?” I plan to hold onto all the positivity coming our way and hug the Maggie doll that my best friend, Alex Graudins ( made me a whole bunch. Veronica: It won’t feel real for a while, I don’t think. For people to connect to and relate to Maggie and her story is kind of mind-blowing that it’s finally here. We’ve worked really hard, a LOT of people have worked really hard, to get this book here finally, and it means a lot. Lee: I’m going to be very honest-I’m going to lose my mind. MFR: What will your emotions be like when the book gets into the hands of readers? For me, it was really an emotional fulfillment- of being able to say ‘I can write this story,’ of fulfilling my childhood dream of being an author, and a kind of lighthouse-like beacon when I was in a job I didn’t like-and meeting all those landmarks, with Maggie? A scared kid going through a lot of hard emotional days? It was just perfect. Lee: JUST ROLL WITH IT was very much a need. Did you need to publish JUST ROLL WITH IT, or did you want to publish the book? MFR: Lee Durfey-Lavoie and Veronica Agarwal, thank you for taking the time to chat with me. But what happens if Maggie rolls the wrong number? Perfect for fans of Guts and Real Friends, JUST ROLL WITH IT is the debut graphic novel from writer Lee Durfey-Lavoie and the second graphic novel from artist Veronica Agarwal.Īfter reading JUST ROLL WITH IT, I had to speak to the creators about their motivations and perspective. As long as Maggie rolls the right number, nothing can go wrong… or so she thinks. JUST ROLL WITH IT is about Maggie, an anxious girl who turns to her twenty-sided die whenever she feels unsure. JUST ROLL WITH IT is fun, timely, and absolutely charming. Also, the universe that Lee Durfey-Lavoie and Veronica Agarwal created is one that we should all aspire to work towards. I wish this graphic novel was around when I went through sixth grade it would have been a great comfort. Her two older sisters had been exemplary students in their time, so Maggie feels the additional burden to excel in addition to her anxiety with friends, classes, and after-school clubs.JUST ROLL WITH IT from Random House Graphic hits your local book shop today. With no overt initial comment, the narrative follows sixth-grader Maggie as she navigates the new challenges of middle school. The YA graphic novel betrays nothing on its cover, with its summary blurb, or for the first sixty-plus pages of the story. There's picture-in-picture, but it along with split screen isn't new they work the same on other Amazon Fire tablets. Who knew you had to tap the app icon within recent apps view to activate it? (I had to Google it.) There's also no drag-and-drop between apps, which pretty much is the bare minimum for productivity on a tablet. The Fire Max 11 supports split screen apps, but running two apps side by side is anything but straightforward. Say what you want about Stage Manager on iPadOS, but it's at least an option (if you can get it work). There's nothing resembling an app windowing experience. There’s no multitasking beyond a slapped-together split screen mode for running two apps side by side. Apple got it right (and OnePlus smartly copied) going with a circular cursor that mimics a finger touchpoint. The cursor is an arrow, which resembles what you get on Windows or macOS, but it looks strange on a tablet running mobile software. And just like the Magic Keyboard Folio, the Fire Max 11 keyboard includes a kickstand that adjusts at many angles for that perfect "lapability."īut back to the software - it's visually and functionally outdated even with the keyboard attachment. The keys have good travel there's a row of media keys (two of which are programmable) above the number row the trackpad is kind of scratchy, though, which can make mousing around less enjoyable. I like that the keyboard is more spacious than Apple's Magic Keyboard Folio for the 10th-gen iPad. They're no Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil combo or a Surface Type Cover and Surface Pen, but they work in a pinch. Photograph by Raymond Wongįor the most part, I think Amazon's made a solid keyboard and stylus. Save for the scratchy trackpad, the keyboard for the Fire Max 11 is solid. What you get as a result is a digital store that feels hollow. But it's also disappointing to see that Amazon has shown no interest in getting more developers to bring their apps to the Amazon Appstore. And that's fine if all you plan to do is watch stuff like The Mandalorianand The Crown or play Roblox and Subway Surfers. especially stuff from Amazon's services. It's really just a digital bookshelf for all of your content - your Kindle books, Prime videos, coin-infested “games,” Amazon Music, etc. If you've used any Fire tablet before, Fire OS 8 on the Fire Max 11 will look familiar. Look no further than the fuzzy wallpapers and the lack of a swipe-based navigation system. I get that Amazon wants to maintain consistency across its whole family of Fire tablets, but every time I look at the icons and navigation buttons, I can't help but feel like I've stepped into an old Radio Shack compared to the bright Apple Store that is iPadOS. As it stands, FireOS 8 looks and feels outdated. That is, Amazon needs to give the operating system, which is based on Android 11 (released in 2020) a reboot from top to bottom. I'll just come out and say it: the Fire Max 11's FireOS 8 software needs its iOS 7 moment. Worth noting are some of the bells and whistles that the Fire Max 11 has: a microSD card slot for expanding the internal storage (64GB or 128GB), a fingerprint sensor inside of the power button (it unlocks quickly), and Wi-Fi 6. The 11-inch display on the Fire Max 11 is pretty crisp for movies. The Fire Max 11 has a battery that lasts up to 14 hours, and I got in the ballpark of this, especially for watching video. Again, for $230, it's no iPad performance - and nobody's expecting it to compete on power. Not as responsive as an iPad and apps do take a few seconds to load. I didn't have a Fire HD 10 Plus on hand to confirm this, but what I can say is the Fire Max 11 feels like a mid-range tablet. I know some people will bemoan the loss of the 3.5mm jack, but with wireless earbuds so cheap these days, it's not a big loss in my book.Īmazon claims the 2.2Ghz octa-core chip inside of the Fire Max 11 is “50 percent faster” than the Fire HD 10 Plus. There's no headphone jack - every other Fire tablet has one, except the Fire Max 11. They can get loud but don't expect the kind of thumpin' speakers you get from an iPad or a Bluetooth speaker. The Fire Max 11 has a pair of Dolby Atmos speakers - and they're fine. Big ol’ Amazon logo stamped on the aluminum body. Or contact Flood Marketing by phone at 1.866.373.5663. Having children after a tummy tuck tends to alter or “undo” the final results, and you may be left with additional excess skin and/or stubborn fat following your pregnancy. Though the procedure doesn’t make pregnancy impossible, it is best if you are not planning any future pregnancies. Ideally, you should be of stable weight, in good health, and a non-smoker if you’re considering abdominoplasty. A tummy tuck can be an excellent treatment to remove excess tissue, resculpting the abdomen to achieve a more taut, smooth contour. Men and women who have lost a significant amount of weight typically benefit from the procedure, as weight loss tends to leave behind loose, inelastic skin around the waist and abdomen. Your midsection may look out of proportion with the rest of your body, a common problem following pregnancy or substantial weight loss. If you are concerned about the loose skin and fat surrounding your midsection, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Often utilized as a combination approach to address an expanded waistline, liposuction and excision are conducted during a tummy tuck to produce a tauter, more contoured abdomen.Īm I a Good Candidate for Tummy Tuck Surgery? Surgical excision is used to remove excess skin, while liposuction targets fat. The techniques used during the tummy tuck procedure - liposuction and surgical excision - are common to many body contouring techniques. During surgery, excess skin and fat are removed, and the muscles of the abdominal wall are repaired. Also referred to as “abdominoplasty,” the procedure may be part of a comprehensive post-bariatric body contouring plan.
